Knowledge of letter-sound relationships is the basic building block of literacy learning. With this set of Sound-spelling Cards you will be equipped to effectively teach sound-spellings (phonics), word structure, and conventional spelling. Sound-spelling instruction, or phonics, attaches previously learned sounds to specific letters and letter combinations and spelling patterns. With an understanding of the sound-spelling system, students are able to decode (read) and encode (spell) words. Mastery of this system aids the development of fluency in both reading and writing.
