These are not stepping stones laid on the floor. Each stepper carries a 70 cm cord that the child holds, so the platform is lifted by the hand as the foot rises — the two have to move together or the stepper is left behind.
That coupling is what makes them hard, and what makes them worth using. Walking on them demands balance on one foot, a pull with the opposite hand, and a rhythm connecting the two. It is a whole-body coordination task, not a placement task.
At only 3 cm high the risk stays negligible. A child who steps off simply steps onto the floor, so they attempt more, wobble more and recover more — and recovering from a wobble is precisely the skill being practised.
The foot shape does the teaching. A child sees a footprint and puts a foot on it; nobody has to explain the activity.
