Description

The triangle rings for several seconds after it is struck, and that sustain is the whole reason it is worth teaching with.

Every other instrument in the box stops when you stop. This one carries on, which means a child has to listen to the sound they made, hear it decay, and wait for it to finish before playing again. Playing a triangle well is almost entirely an exercise in not playing.

It also has a mute. Closing a hand around the metal stops the note instantly, so children control the ending as well as the beginning — a level of expressive control most classroom percussion does not offer.

Practically, the sustain is why the triangle marks endings. A single strike closes a song, signals a transition or marks a moment in a story, and it cuts cleanly through other sound without being loud.

At 12.7 cm the steel bar is sized for a child to hold by its cord with one hand and strike with the other, hung free so it can ring properly.

  • Long sustain — teaches children to listen and wait
  • Hand-mute gives control over how a note ends, not just starts
  • Cuts through other sound without volume: marks endings and transitions
  • 12.7 cm steel bar with beater; hangs free to ring
  • Recommended ages 4–10

For KG and primary music, listening work and classroom transitions.
