Description

Curved mirrors are the rare science resource that produces an immediate, funny, personal result. A child looks in and their own face is distorted — and the reaction is instant engagement, not polite interest.

The convex mirror bulges outward and shrinks everything, fitting more of the room into the same circle. The concave one curves inward, magnifying a close face and then, further back, flipping it upside down. That flip is the moment worth waiting for: children discover it by accident, move back and forth to check it is real, and start asking questions no one has prompted.

Because the mirrors are hand-held, children control the distance, and controlling the variable is the actual experiment. They are not shown an effect; they find one.

At 11.5 cm the mirrors are large enough to show a whole face and small enough to hold steady, with the reflective surfaces on rigid backings rather than flexible film that would distort unpredictably.

  • One convex and one concave mirror in the pair
  • Concave mirror flips the image at distance — children find it themselves
  • Hand-held, so children control the variable
  • 11.5 cm rigid-backed mirrors, not flexible film
  • Recommended ages 4–9

Part of the hand-held optics range with the double-sided mirror and magnifiers. For KG science and primary light topics.
