Double Tone Wood Block 20×4 cm | Small Two-Pitch Rhythm Block

The distinction between this block and the larger two-tone version is portability. At 20 × 4 cm it is slim enough to hold comfortably in one hand for a whole session, which changes where it can be used.

A block that has to sit on a table anchors the child to the table. A block held in the hand travels — into circle time, into movement and marching sessions, out into the playground for a parade. Instruments that can move get used in more of the timetable.

Musically it does the same job: two slots, two pitches, enough to play a two-note pattern rather than a flat pulse. The smaller body gives a slightly higher and drier sound than the large block, which cuts through a group of moving children better than a deeper tone would.
