Real insects are too small and too fast for a three-year-old to examine. Scaled-up insect toys solve both problems: they hold still, and the features are large enough to see.
That makes this the set that carries actual biology. Six legs, three body parts, antennae, wings — these are checkable facts, and children can verify them by counting on the model rather than being told. “Is a spider an insect?” becomes a question a five-year-old can answer with their own hands by counting to eight.
The figures also support the outdoor work that follows. Children who have handled a model beetle recognise a real one in the playground, and a minibeast hunt goes from random searching to identification.
Realism is the specification that matters here more than in any other animal set. A cartoon ladybird with four legs teaches something false; these are modelled accurately enough that counting works.
- Scaled up so children can count legs and body parts unaided
- Makes ‘is a spider an insect?’ a question children answer themselves
- Prepares children to identify real minibeasts outdoors
- Accurate modelling — counting features actually works
- Recommended ages 3–8
- 23-piece set: butterfly, dragonfly, bee, ladybird, fly, ant, grasshopper and praying mantis — two of each — plus 6 trees, fences and logs and an instruction sheet
- Figures graded 13.5×3 cm down to 3.8×2.8 cm; adult-and-young pairs invite size comparison
- Storage box included — the set stays a complete set
