This is a low wooden tray divided into compartments, 45 × 30 cm in plan and only 8 cm deep. The shallowness is the design: at 8 cm nothing gets buried, and a teacher glances down at the end of a session and sees immediately that four of the six pairs of scissors have come back.

Compartments separate the categories that otherwise migrate into each other — pencils from glue sticks, scissors from erasers. For a small group table it holds the entire set of shared tools for an activity; on a teacher’s desk it holds the things that need to be found without looking.
